The bar chart compares the percentage of male and female students who completed a university degree in three fields of study, Engineering, Health Sciences and Humanities, in 2020. Overall, completion rates were high across all categories, and the gender gap varied considerably from one field to another.
Health Sciences recorded the highest completion rates for both groups. Female students led all groups at 82 per cent, while male students also reached their highest rate in this field at 74 per cent. Humanities followed a similar pattern, with women completing at 77 per cent compared with 69 per cent for men, an eight-point difference that matched the gap in Health Sciences.
Engineering was the only field in which male students outperformed female students, with 71 per cent of men completing a degree compared with 68 per cent of women. The margin was small, however, at just three percentage points. Engineering also recorded the lowest completion rate for women across the three fields. Overall, women outperformed men in two of the three fields.
